I am motivated to run because I believe the 2010 election will be a critical time for our country. America is becoming unrecognizable. Government is rapidly growing and getting further and further out of touch with the people it is supposed to represent. I am tired of members of our government not listening, not responding, and giving away America while taking away more and more of our freedom. We write our Congressmen and our Senators. We light up the phone lines to Washington - only to be ignored. We have our heads buried in work in order to provide for our families. We go to work early, come home late, have dinner and put the kids to bed. On the weekends, if you’re like me, we are busy completing odd jobs around the house, finishing up some tasks from work while it’s quiet, or squeezing in some quality time with our families. If you are someone who has been laid off, you find yourself working even harder looking for a job. Every hour of our lives is accounted for so when we do get that occasional down time and use it to contact our representatives - only to be ignored; we feel helpless. If nobody in Washington is going to listen, then I need to go to Washington and become part of the solution to reduce spending, reduce taxes, and put our children’s futures back in the hands of their parents.

Currently, many members of Congress react to problems by passing legislation quickly in order to say they are doing something. We have already seen that many of the bills passed have not been thoroughly researched or even read. I believe government should look ahead and address the tough issues with common sense solutions that have been questioned, researched, and answered so that we don’t find ourselves a few years later trying to solve a problem caused by our earlier “quick-fix” solutions. We need to get away from reactionary politics and take on the issues facing us while we are on watch. I want a representative who doesn’t keep passing the buck. I have two young daughters who deserve to see the America our forefathers built and the only way I can make this happen is to go to Washington, DC, and try and stop the waste, stop the spending, and stop the federal government’s growth. The power of government should rest in the hands of local elected officials. They are the people you see at the supermarket, at church, at local parks, or in their offices. When the power of government is controlled at the local level, you have a greater influence on the direction in which your government is going. If the local government is moving in a direction you do not like and cannot change, you can move to another city, county, or state. When the federal government sets the standard, you have nowhere to turn.

Today we find ourselves in a recession, caused in large part by our elected officials’ quest for more power and their poor policy-making decisions. During this recession, companies are downsizing, cutting wages, reducing staff, and doing more with less. Families are also cutting back, reducing expenses, canceling vacations, and living within their means. Everywhere you look companies and individuals are cutting back – the only one growing during these financially tough times is the government. The GOVERNMENT, an institution whose sole source of revenue is taken from the citizens it is designed to protect. This has to stop. Government should work for you! Not the other way around.

There are some basic principles I believe our government has forgotten as outlined in the Declaration of Independence. "That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." If our representatives would legislate using our Constitution and the Declaration of Independence as their guide, many of the problems we see today in our country would not exist.

This is why I’m asking for your vote. Send me to Washington and let’s put Family, Faith and FREEDOM at the forefront where they belong.
